Reno

90 GFL 258 Blue Check Meulemans Cock

Reno children have been among our best racers and breeders. He is 12-years old in this photo and is still producing excellent youngsters.

Rich in the best-concentrated Meulemans blood available, Reno is a grandson of Kadet. His dam is a granddaughter of Liebling and Schoon Donker. If you know Meulemans pedigrees, then you know this is the right stuff.

In 1990, after a business trip to Notre Dame University, in South Bend, Indiana, I stopped off to visit Mike Ganus. The purpose of my visit was to obtain a pair of Meulemans to cross into my Janssens. Mike suggested I take a daughter of the Million Dollar Cock and a grandson of Kadet, who I later named Reno, given his sire was called Las Vegas. I have kept this pair together all these years and despite their age they are still producing excellent offspring.

Not long after I bought the pair from Mike, he sold all the Meulemans. Many, including Las Vegas, were acquired by Dr. Mel Carpenter of California. When I visited Mike at his loft in the Netherlands, I asked him why he disposed of the Meulemans. He said, “They were too big.” Reno, in fact, is the biggest cock in my loft, however, when paired the Billion Dollar Hen, the children have been ideal in size. Reno is not the most beautiful bird in my loft, but his children and grandchildren have delivered beautiful performances in Hawaii, Pennsylvania, Texas, and New York as well as New Jersey.

Over the years I have given as gifts, donated to auctions and sold for nominal amounts many of Reno’s youngsters in the hopes they would find themselves in the right hands and build a reputation. This bloodline is underrated in my opinion, however the reputation is growing steadily. Reno bred one of my best widowhood cocks, de2000, who won:

He also won futurity money, club diplomas and was always 1 st or 2nd to the loft.

De2000 is also one of our best breeding cocks. One de 2000 daughter we flew won a 1st club. A second daughter has proven to be a great breeder for Gerald Hebert, producing Ace Old Bird, Ace Yearling, and Ace Bird of the Year in the Michiana Combine along with Racing Pigeon Digest Ace Pigeon honors when flown by Harold Lamons.

A grandson of Reno is tearing things up in the North Texas Concourse as a yearling this year (2002) for Hilmar Sibley.

Another grandson from a Reno son and one of my Fabrys won $1,000 in 2001 for Steve and Linda Joneli in Washington.
