Tangerine

85 GFL 540 Janssen Slate Hen

Grandam to equal 1st Central Jersey Combine, 4,505 birds. Breeder of some of the most beautiful pigeons in my loft.

In 1985, I was in Chicago on business and decided to stop off in South Bend, Ind., on the way home to pay Mike Ganus a visit. I wanted to buy youngsters and selected three cocks and two hens based on a variety of reasons ranging from their parents to the way they handled. As we looked over his young birds in a second-floor pen that must have held 50 or 60 birds, Mike pointed out a little slate hen and suggested I take her. I later named her Tangerine after the title of a jazz tune and she turned out to be an excellent choice. Although she is no longer fertile, she is still alive at 17 years of age. Visitors to the loft consistently pick her out among all the rest as a pigeon to be admired for wing structure and conformation despite her age.

Tangerine's dam won 5 firsts. Her sire won 18 diplomas in 24 races flown. She is probably off some of the best performance Janssens Mike Ganus ever owned.

Here is her short pedigree.
